Bio: Attorney Chris Harrell

Christopher Harrell, Attorney at Law, PLLC was established in 2000. Chris limits his practice to the areas of divorce and family law, Social Security disability, and Workers' Compensation. In addition, Chris serves as a mediator to the Jefferson Family Courts.

Our office is located at 2500 Bardstown Road Suite 4, Louisville KY 40205; the office is one mile north of the Watterson Expressway, at the corner of Taylorsville and Bardstown Road. Our location is easily accessible to the entire Louisville Metropolitan area being on the TARC bus line (TARC Routes 17 and 23), and offers plenty of free parking.

In limiting his practice to the above-described areas, Mr. Harrell is able to keep abreast of important developments in these areas of law. Chris is often selected by the Jefferson Circuit Court, Family Division to represent children in cases of alleged dependency, neglect, and abuse. He is also appointed by the Jefferson Family Court judges to represent children in contested child custody cases. In 2008, Chris was awarded the Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) “Professional of the Year” award. Chris has also acted as a parenting coordinator in the Jefferson Family Court.

As a trained mediator, Chris is able to help families attempt to resolve their problems outside of litigation. This approach not only permits people to avoid litigation and its associated expense, but also allows them to resolve their disputes in a much less confrontational manner. Chris' training and experience as a mediator has allowed him to become a more effective attorney, as he is able to apply these skills to representation of clients in both the mediation and courtroom settings.

Chris has been handling Social Security disability cases since his admission to the Kentucky Bar in 1993. He has represented hundreds of clients before Administrative Law Judges. He has also successfully appealed cases to the Social Security Administration's Appeals Council, and has won cases in the Federal District Court . Chris is a former chair of the Louisville Bar Association's Social Security Disability section, and is a member of the National Organization of Social Security Claimants' Representatives. Chris is a frequent lecturer on Social Security Disability issues at continuing legal education seminars for other attorneys.

Chris is a published author, having had articles appear on the topics of Social Security Disability, Child Custody, and Domestic Violence.

Chris is also an experienced Appellant advocate, having a victorious case published by the Kentucky Court of Appeals.

Prior to entering private practice, Chris was a public interest lawyer, having practiced with the Northeast Kentucky Legal Services in Morehead, Kentucky, and the Legal Aid Society in Louisville, Kentucky. He continues his commitment to public service through his volunteerism with the Louisville Bar Association's Pro Bono Consortium, as well as volunteering for the Center for Women & Families, and the Legal Aid Society. Chris is also a member of the Jefferson County Race and Child Welfare Community Advisory Board and is a member of the Jefferson County Guardian Ad Litem's Association, the National Association of Counsel for Children, and the National Lawyers' Guild.

Chris graduated from the University of Kentucky College of Law in 1993, having received his undergraduate degree in Political Science from the University of Kentucky in 1990. Chris is a native of Louisville, having graduated from Seneca High School in 1986.
